Former India wicketkeeper-batter Vijay Dahiya has been appointed head coach of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) senior men’s team for the 2026-27 domestic season. The appointment marks Dahiya’s return to the Delhi setup and is part of a reshuffle of the team’s coaching and selection structure.
Dahiya, who played two Tests and 19 ODIs for India, has previously served as Delhi’s head coach on multiple occasions. He was in charge when Delhi won the Ranji Trophy in the 2007-08 season, ending a 16-year wait for the prestigious domestic title.

Alongside Dahiya’s appointment, former Delhi cricketer Rajkumar Sharma has been named the state mentor. Sharma is widely known for his association with Virat Kohli during the early stages of the former India captain’s career and has remained involved with Delhi cricket over the years.
The DDCA has also appointed former Delhi player KP Bhaskar as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee. The appointments represent a significant change in the leadership structure ahead of the new domestic season.
Dahiya brings experience from both domestic and franchise cricket to the role. After his playing career, he became involved in coaching and was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup during their IPL title-winning campaigns in 2012 and 2014.
He later worked as an assistant coach with Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. Dahiya has also served as head coach of Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, adding to his experience of working with players across different levels of Indian cricket.
His previous stint with Delhi also produced a major domestic achievement. Under his coaching, Delhi secured the 2007-08 Ranji Trophy, which was the team’s first title in 16 years. His return comes as Delhi prepares for another domestic campaign with a revamped coaching and support staff.
Rajkumar Sharma’s appointment adds another experienced figure to the setup. His long association with Kohli, particularly during the batter’s formative years, has been a prominent part of his coaching profile. Sharma has also remained connected to the Delhi cricket system and will now serve in a broader mentoring role for the state team.
The new structure places Dahiya in charge of the senior men’s team while Sharma takes on the role of state mentor. Bhaskar will oversee the senior men’s selection committee.
The DDCA will now look to the new coaching and selection team as Delhi begins preparations for the 2026-27 domestic season. Dahiya’s previous success with the side, combined with his experience in franchise and domestic cricket, will form part of the new setup as Delhi seeks to build its campaign around a refreshed support structure.
