Goa Forward Party president Vijay Sardesai on Tuesday recalled his decision to oppose the late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar despite being elected as an Independent, stating that it was his democratic right to do so.
Speaking about his political journey, Sardesai said he was elected as an Independent 13 years ago along with several others who had secured victory without party affiliation. While most of them chose to extend support to Parrikar, Sardesai said he took a different stand and openly opposed the government.

“I was elected as an Independent 13 years ago, and along with me, several others were also elected as Independents. While all of them chose to support Parrikar, I did not. I openly opposed him and even tried to bring his government down before he completed two years as Chief Minister,” Sardesai said.
He further alleged that senior leaders Digambar Kamat and Pratapsingh Rane were exerting pressure on Parrikar at the time and had publicly stated that they would not support any move to unseat him. Despite this, Sardesai said he made his position clear.
“I issued a clear statement saying that I tried to bring him down, and that it was my democratic right,” he added.
