PANJIM: The minimum wages revision for skilled and unskilled workers will take another two months to be enforced as the draft of the revision was opened for objections and suggestions.

The Wage Revision Committee after taking suggestions from all the industry stakeholders has decided to revise minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, highly skilled and clerical workers.
According to the draft wage revision, the revised wages for unskilled worker is Rs 553, for semi skilled is Rs 625, skilled is Rs 734, highly skilled Rs 806 and for clerical Rs 734 per day has been proposed.
Labour and Employment Commissioner Raju Gawas said, “The draft of the revision of wages will be kept open for 60 days for public to submit their objections and suggestions if any, after which it will be notified.”
After several rounds of meetings by the Wage Revision Committee comprising industry, trade and commerce representatives, the draft wage revision has been revised.
The wages has to be revised every five years but was delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic. The minimum wages were revised last in 2016 while the Variation in Dearness Allowance (VDA) was recently revised with Rs 92 across all categories on October 1.
The previous minimum wages for unskilled worker was Rs 307, semi-skilled Rs 368, skilled Rs 423, and highly skilled/supervisory Rs 465 per day.
Meanwhile, there are reports that some companies have been objecting to revision of minimum wages claiming that they had still not recovered from the revenue drop due to Covid-19 pandemic.
