T he Selaulim water pipeline supplying water to Dabolim, Vasco and Cortalim constituencies was damaged by a JCB machine engaged in excavation work near the multilevel parking building of the new integrated terminal of Dabolim airport.
Thousands of litres of water have been wasted. This is avoidable wastage of water. This is not the first time that such an incident is occurring. Unplanned digging has led to several instances when the underground pipelines have been damaged.
It seems necessary for those involved in the digging activity to have a plan of the internal network of pipelines available so that they are aware of where the pipelines are located.
The authorities concerned should make such plans of underground network of pipelines available to those carrying out the digging work so that they exercise caution while digging. This will save a lot of trouble to the citizens and prevent unnecessary wastage of water.
