Affected farmers informed Herald that though the department had commenced the supply of agricultural water since last many days, the sudden discontinuation of the supply has made the farmers worry about the transplanting operations which is in progress.
President of Uguem Farmers Association Francisco Carvalho informed that in the absence of supply of agricultural water, the farmers were forced to undertake the transplanting operation on the dry land.
He said even though they made frequent efforts to persuade authorities to make the provision for supply of water, the authorities did not pay heed to the farmers advice and made the farmers suffer.
The water was reportedly released later in the day after the intervention of the local MLA Prasad Gaonkar. However, the water supply lasted only for about an hour and was later discontinued.
