PANJIM: After sweeping a comfortable victory in Tripura and is expected to be a part of the government along with its alliance partner Nagaland Democratic Progressive Party in Nagaland, the BJP is now eying Karnataka to end the Congress rule.
“There was a wrong notion everywhere that BJP can form government only in North Indian states. But the recent elections in the North East have proved all wrong. We are covering States across the nation. We have won in Tripura wherein from 1.5 per cent vote share in the last Assembly election, BJP has secured 35 seats and its ally has got eight seats. Similarly, in Nagaland, the BJP and the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party have a comfortable lead over Naga People’s Front. We will form government there as well,” BJP Goa President Vinay Tendulkar said at a press conference on Sunday a day after the election results were announced in the three NE states.
In Meghalaya, which has thrown up a hung assembly, the BJP has promised a non-Congress government. Meanwhile, with general assembly elections approaching in Karnataka, the BJP is confident to dethrone the current Congress government.
“We will win Karnataka as well,” Tendulkar said, addressing the press briefing along with party general secretary Sadanand Shet Tanawde.
“The Modi wave has so far given a lead to BJP in 21 out of 29 States,” he added.
