A total of 20 fishing boats which had sailed from the Cutbona fishing jetty returned back with a poor catch. Dozens of fishing trawlers were anchored at the fishing jetty waiting for the rough sea conditions to subside to venture out.
Spokesman of the Cutbona Boat Owners Union Elvis Gomes said strong gusty winds marred day one of the fishing season on Friday. “The fishing boats were all geared up for the new season, but the inclement weather conditions prevented the vessels from venturing out today,” he said.
Gomes said the boat owners are still keeping their fingers crossed whether the vessels will be able to venture out for fishing on Saturday in view of the prevailing weather conditions. ‘Going by the prevailing sea conditions, we doubt whether the fishing boats will be able to venture out even on Saturday,” he added.
