Wet spell to continue for another four days

Orange alert on July 25 & 26; Yellow alert on July 27 & 28

PANJIM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa, on Wednesday issued an orange alert for July 25 and 26 forecasting heavy rainfall at many places with strong surface winds and yellow alert for the subsequent two days.

“Heavy rainfall is very likely at many places with very heavy rainfall very likely at a few places with strong surface winds over North Goa and South Goa districts on July 25 and 26,” the IMD said.

It further said, “Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places with strong surface winds over North Goa and South Goa districts on July 27 and 28.”

For Panjim and Mormugao, it forecast continuous spells of rain with short intense spells and winds gusting to 50 kmph on July 25, 2024.

Meanwhile, the average rainfall received by the state from June 1, 2024, to July 24, 2024, has gone to 107.5 mm as against normal rainfall of 68.3 mm, registering a surplus of 57.5 per cent of rainfall.

The rainfall received by various cities during the last 24 hours measured at 8.30 am of July 24, 2024, were Mapusa – 1.6 inches, Pernem – 1.5 inches, Ponda – .98 inches, Panjim – 1.4 inches, Old Goa – 1.5 inches, Sanquelim – 3.2 inches, Valpoi – 5.8 inches, Canacona – 1 inch, Dabolim – 0.8 inches and Margao- 3.1 inches, Mormugao – 1.3 inches, Quepem – 5.7 inches and Sanguem – 4.5 inches.
