Congress National spokesperson, Bhavya Narasimhamurthy, has raised a pertinent question about the BJP’s delay in implementing the reservation policy. On Monday, she once again criticized the BJP Government regarding the Women Reservation Bill.
Bhavya Narsimhamurty, the National Coordinator of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Social Media and Digital Platforms, addressed reporters in Panaji and alleged that the Modi-led government was reluctant to enact the bill, insinuating that the BJP might be using it merely as a political ploy for elections.

She pointed out a historical context, highlighting that in 1989, the then-Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, introduced a law aiming to reserve 33 per cent of seats in local bodies for women. However, when the bill was put forth, prominent BJP figures such as Lal Krishna Advani, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Yashwant Singh, and Ram Jethmalani voted against it. Although the bill passed in the Lok Sabha, it fell short of approval in the Rajya Sabha by just seven votes, Narsimhamurthy recounted.
