MARGAO: The wholesale fruit vendors who operate early morning in Margao met the municipal chief and complained that they are given very little time to operate.
The traders requested the chief officer to allow them operate till 8 am and not a minute more after that. This request was and was granted by the chief officer.
The traders told Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar that their business begins only at 7 am as retailers from distant places like Canacona, Sanguem, Quepem reach the market only 7 am. “Municipal staffers are raiding and confiscating our stock at 7.30 am which is unfair,” traders’ representative Mehboob Thakker complained.
“Eight o’clock is a good time as vehicles reach at 7 am,” Thakker said thanking the chief officer for allowing them to operate till 8 am.
Temporarily agreeing for 8 am and not a minute after that, the chief officer said, “The issue needs to be studied. There is school traffic; others too have their businesses there.”
