PANJIM: The State government has reconstituted State Wildlife Board under chairmanship of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. He is also the vice chairman of the Committee, being the Minister for Forest.
The notification with regards to reconstitution of State Wildlife Board was issued by Under Secretary Forest, Shaila Bhosle.
The 32-member committee has Poriem MLA Pratapsingh Rane, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha and Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar as its members amongst others.
Renowned environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar, snake catcher Amrut Singh, scientist Baban Ingole are also its members.
In yet another notification, State Government has re-nominated Sandeep Azrenkar, Milind Gadgil and M K Janardhan as members of the State Level Eco-Sensitive Zone Monitoring Committee for a period of one year in pursuance of the notification dated January 2015 issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
The notification issued by MoEF&CC on January 23, 2015 stated that an area of one kilometre around the boundaries of the wildlife sanctuaries/national park/bird sanctuary in Goa, as Eco-Sensitive Zones and also that a committee be formed to monitor all the eco-sensitive areas.
The committee was to comprise of three members – one from a non-governmental organisation, one from a community-based organisation and an expert in ecology from a reputed institution.
Azrenkar, a member of the Nisarga Nature Club, Mapusa (NGO Category), Gadgil, a representative of the community-based organisation and Janardhan, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences and Environment (Goa University) are committee members for a period of one year. They were earlier nominated in 2017.
