CANACONA: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said his government had no problem undertaking and completing those projects initiated by the previous Congress government, provided those projects have been properly planned and with the necessary financial provision.
Parrikar was addressing a gathering at the KTC bus stand in Chaudi-Canacona, before the foundation stones were laid for the Ravindra Bhavan (Rs 36 crore) and a multipurpose indoor stadium on Gaitonde mini-sports complex (Rs 6.35 crore).
“The Ravindra Bhavan at Canacona will be completed in precisely 18 months,” said Parrikar.
When asked by reporters if his government would also take up and complete those projects pending by the previous Congress government, Parrikar said: “I don’t know, why, how and for what some of those foundation stones were laid by them (congress ministers). If there is proper planning, designing and has financial concurrences, my government will certainly see them completed.”
Parrikar assured to refurbish the KTC bus stand, which had been constructed within a record time of 90 days during his previous term as chief minister.
The chief minister also informed that Arts & Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar had proposed the Ravindra Bhavan at Canacona ahead of his own dream project of the Ravindra Bhavan at Mapuca. Parrikar stated that the foundation stone for the Bardez Ravindra Bhavan will be laid on December 19.
Sports Minister Birthday Boy Ramesh Tawadkar later laid the foundation stones for the sports complexes at Karvem-Gaondongrim (Rs 2 crore) and Shristhal (Rs 1.56 crore), even though foundation stones were already existing at both these sites by the previous Congress government. Then sports minister Micky Pacheco had laid the foundation stone for the Karvem-Gaondongrim sports complex.
Others present on the occasion included Mandrekar, Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai, CMC Chairperson Mahadev Dessai, Director of Arts & Culture Prasad Lolienkar and sarpanchas of Poinguinim, Loliem-Polem and Cotigao.
Mindful that two proposed projects have generated a controversy in the taluka, police teams were deputed at both sites in Chaudi to prevent any untoward incident. Incidentally, there were no protests or agitations and the functions went off smoothly.
