MARGAO: Work on the new District Hospital at Fatorda is going on at a frantic pace but the exact date when it will be ready is anybody’s guess even as the Medical Superintendent of Hospicio Dr Ira Almeida is ready to shift once the building is handed over to them.
“We shall first shift the para clinical units that do not involve the patient like pathology and blood bank,” she said arguing that all units involving patients will be shifted thereafter after ensuring that everything is in place at the new hospital.
Jude Carvalho, General Manager of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation that is constructing the new hospital premises, said 80 per cent of the work is completed and it should be ready by December this year.
Right now, he said the work on the operation theatres is going on and expects it to be completed before December by which time the electrical and few minor civil works will also be completed. “The work on the 13 OTs and the few civil works will be completed soon,” he said.
What could be a problem is finalization of the tender for medical gases which is not yet finalized. The hospital needs oxygen and gases for anesthesia in the operation theatres. Until and unless the regular supply of gases is not guaranteed there is no point in commissioning the operation theatres. Hence, a lot will depend on when the tender for medical gases is finalised.
