PORIEM: Tension prevailed at Sakhaleshwar Devasthan, Poriem, on Friday after trouble was created by one group. The Gaonkar clan which consists of 12 families alleged that one group went to worship at 5.30am and broke the tradition.
Thereafter the Valpoi Deputy Collector ordered that for the next two days the temple would be closed. Also Section 144 was imposed which banned the gathering of more than five people.
This led to protest by the Gaonkar group infront of the Deputy Collector Valpoi’s office. After the protests, the Deputy Collector on Saturday, allowed the temple to be kept open and the religious ceremony was allowed and the foundation day celebrations will go on, on 21st and 22nd December.
Section 144 which was imposed on Friday, has been lifted on Saturday.
DySP Bicholim Jivba Dalvi confirmed the situation at the Temple in Poriem, Sattari is peaceful. Law and order are under control following tensions. Authorities continue to monitor closely to ensure smooth coordination between communities.
