Avertano swings into action
Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado held a meeting with deputy chief minister over conditions at Hospicio hospital. Deputy CM will be meeting doctors and staff on Thursday and government will hand over equipment like mattresses, bed sheets, electrical equipment etc that were observed missing at the hospital. This was in view of the meeting held with doctors and Avertano recently at the hospital following the violence last month. Thursday will be a jam packed day for the minister because before the Hospicio visit at 4 pm, the fisheries and labour minister will put the foundation for widening and hot mixing of roads at Wilsonnagar Rumdamoll side near the chapel. The road works too have been a long pending demand of Navelim residents.
Salcete sarpanches criticise
Carmona pancahayat functioning
While Carmona deputy sarpanch was hailed as an inspiration for many in the panch member circle of Salcete for the way he fought off the Rahejas in the past, Sarpanches today feel the Carmona panchayat should not have gone against the wishes of the public. Sarpanches, many who are part of the same Salcete block panchayat forum that opine that the Carmona deputy sarpanch may be correct in his arguments that he was mandated by law and point out that the panchayat should be given more powers to fight such cases. However, they cannot accept what they label as the biggest mistake of any panchayat body of going against such a strong united opinion of the public. They even list cases that have gone against their panchayat but have pointed out their panchayats have stuck to the wishes of the people and passed resolutions and issued notices against such projects even if it meant being hauled up by court, a price they were willing to pay as it meant not letting the public down, the same public that had elected them.
When push comes to shove,
Caitu has to move mountains
Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva has no other choice but to ensure that his fight against Rahejas is fierce enough to get the government to react to the cries of the people. While Caitu has taken up the cause and shown up for their public meeting and met the senior town planner and Salcete BDO,  his visits to the ministers in Panjim carry the weight of expectations of all Carmona locals. And they will not accept lip service and this has been made clear to the minister who is currently constantly pushing for an early resolution with the ministers. While his interaction with the chief minister will be the key, the legal issues in revoking the license will take time but Caitu knows that the time for reckoning has come and pushing the ministers he must.
ZP Member Clafasio Dias birthday bash to bring in popular cheer
Curtorim ZP Member Clafasio Dias is set to celebrate his birthday but what people are waiting to see is when he steps up a gear in his attempts to vie for the Cuncolim seat. While a big crowd is expected to descend for his birthday, it remains to be seen if he can conquer the growing crowd of aspirants for the Cuncolim seat. The grapevine is that Dias will have to battle it out with four probable candidates at a minimum for the seat and is also facing tough completion for the Congress seat even though he appears confident of securing it. Advocate John Monteiro who was successful in spoiling former Congress Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao in the last assembly elections is also aiming to get the Congress ticket but it is likely that he will stand in either case given the 5,000 odd votes he won as an independent. While Alemao is definitely in the running and BJP MLA Rajan Naik is on a development spree to retain the seat, there are rumours that new entrants like former top cop Tony Fernandes could make it a five way battle for Cuncolim.
Damu sees red as Vijai launches Mission Rabies in Fatorda
The latest on the Vijai Sardesai versus Damu Naik perennial battleground for Fatorda is that Damu who has always found fault with any initiative launched by Vijai sought to raise objections to the recently launched Mission Rabies in Fatorda. It is rumoured that Naik had pointed out at the issues like no permissions from the veterinary sources and other government departments but that the chief minister brushed it aside stating given that mission rabies is a state programme. While the Vijai camp has scoffed at this latest attempt to stop the ‘Fatorda Forward’ movement, the case of tu tu mein mein will never cease to bore the Fatorda residents as everyone knows that the loud voices against any big decision of Ravindra Bhavan Fatorda or Entertainment Society of Goa comes from the Vijai camp.
MMC and CMC abuzz with
reservation row
What will be the fate of countless councillor aspirants from the Margao and Cuncolim constituency as the delimitation and reservation demarcations have left them in a dizzy and wondering what will happen if they can’t contest on the seat of their choice. It already appears that many will not be able to contest either because their seat has been reserved for OBC while other were hoping that some seats would be reserved for ladies to keep out old faces.
