According to Sister Loureena nothing special has been planned in the house but they will be attending Solemn Eucharistic at Holy Cross Church on Sunday and thereafter a short movie will be shown to people based on the life and Services of Mother Teresa.
Speaking on the experiences of her working with Mother Teresa, Sister Loureena said that she did not get an opportunity to meet her when she had been to Goa. “But I feel lucky and fortunate as I got a chance to be with her for five years in Kolkata. It was very good experience, She was so motherly, so loving, so kind and we felt God’s presence being with her,” said Sister Loureena.
“We are very happy and grateful to God for the gift of mother, she is so much and everything to us.” said all the sisters who are serving in the St. Joseph’s House for Destitute.
Patrick, one of the inmate who got opportunity to meet Mother Teresa at Nagpur said expressing his happiness that Mother was a living saint and now she is being made saint again for the second time.
When contacted, Sister Loureena informed that St. Joseph’s Home is one of them among the four shelter homes of Society of Missionaries of Charity in Goa.
It was in 1988 Mother Teresa agreed to the proposal of Cabido Canon Alvaro Pinto and took over the St. Joseph’s Home and then the house was inaugurated March 18 in 1988.
“Initially, the sisters were residing and serving the destitutes in the same house but later seeing their hardship, Canon Pinto had donated additional land opposite to the house where they constructed the convent and it was inaugurated on October 30 in 1995 at the hands of Emeritus Archbishop Raul Gosalves” informed Sister Loureena and said that in the same year the women destitute shifted to their house at Carambolim.
Now, there are 56 destitute men from different States and six sisters are looking after them in the home. The men have no one, they are old and mostly psychiatric and sufferings from various disease. “God always provides everything,” said Sister Loureena with a smiling face when asked her how they manage to provide them (destitutes) with their basic necessities.
Sister also informed that the inmates are taught to make various handmade items, paintings beside house work.
Superior of Missionaries of Charity’s Jyothi Bhavan at Cotto-Fatorpa Sister Teres Joseph MC said that they are very glad and thankful to God for the elevation of Mother Teresa to sainthood.
According to Sister Joseph there are 55 women destitutes in their home and five sisters are taking their care. “I joined the congregation in 1982 and during my formation years I got opportunity to be with her for three and half years and I have seen that Mother was very concern about all the sisters and always taught us to make use of each movement in the presence of God.” said Sister Joseph.
