Who was she?
The 23-year old girl was a rape survivor and had filed a case in March alleging that one of the accused had raped her in 2018. She accused two men, Shivam and Shubham Trivedi, of raping her in December last year.
The hearings for the case were ongoing, when one of the prime accused, Shubam, was released.
Immediately after securing bail ten days ago, Shubham allegedly started following and threatening her.
The victim and her family visited the Bihar police station close to the Sindupur village in Unnao several times but the police turned a deaf ear to the complaints.
On Thursday, the girl was on her way to Rae Bareli court for the case when she was abducted and later set on fire by five men, two of whom were the accused in her rape case.
Harishankar Trivedi, Ram Kishore Trivedi, Umesh Bajpai, Shivam and Shubham Trivedi were the perpetrators of the heinous act, the last two are the prime accused in the rape case.
According to sources one of these five men is the son of the village pradhan against whom the woman had lodged a rape complaint.
Plea for help
The victim ran for a kilometer even as she burned crying for help and assistance. As per reports, after the incident, she took a bystander’s mobile phone and called the emergency help number and police herself. She was rushed to a nearby hospital from where she was referred to the civil hospital in Lucknow where she was admitted in a plastic surgery burn unit. The victim’s statement was recorded there. She had suffered 90 per cent burns and then airlifted out of the state to Safdarjung hospital, New Delhi where she continued to receive treatment.
Her last words
“Save me, I don’t want to die, I want to see them hang to death”. These are the last words of the 23-year-old rape victim to her family members and doctors before she died on Friday late night in the Delhi hospital. She was declared dead at 11.40 p.m. after she could not survive cardiac arrest at Safdarjung Hospital. “She was in pain. She had been pleading to save her,” said a senior doctor from the hospital.
Autopsy Report
The autopsy report of the Unnao rape victim showed that she died of extensive burn injuries, a senior doctor at the Safdarjung hospital said on Saturday.
was airlifted from Lucknow to the Delhi-based hospital where she died on Friday night.
The doctor said, “According to the postmortem report, the victim died of extensive burn injuries.”
“There was no indication of the presence of any foreign body, poisoning or suffocation on the body of the woman during postmortem conducted this morning,” the doctor said.
On Friday, Dr Shalab Kumar, Head of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department at the Safdarjung Hospital, said, “Despite our best efforts, she did not survive. Her condition deteriorated towards the evening. She had a cardiac arrest around 11:10 pm. We tried to resuscitate her, but she passed away around 11:40 pm.”
Unnao victim’s family
The woman’s body was taken to her village in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district in an ambulance.
The brother of the Unnao rape victim said his sister will get justice when all the accused go to the place “where she has gone”.
“She told me, brother please save me. I am very sad that I could not save her,” he told reporters on Saturday. He said the persons involved in the incident should be either killed in an encounter or hanged.
The Uttar Pradesh Police have deployed a police team including one Sub-Inspector and two Constables at the residence of Unnao rape survivor. “A police team including one Sub-Inspector and two Constables have been deployed at her (victim’s) residence permanently as a precautionary measure. We will take the case to its logical end,” Praveen Kumar, IG, Law and Order, told reporters here on Friday.
Earlier, the victim’s relatives claimed they received death threats and that the callers also threatened to burn their shop.
