The Election fever has reached its crescendo ,and the politicians are creating confusing in the minds of the people by provoking with hate and anger by making speeches full of hatred and communal and some of the top leaders of national parties have been bared in canvassing, during the elections lot of people becomes enemies, sometimes even within families , but one think we should all remember that first “ We are citizens of India” whether Hindus, Muslim, Sikhs Catholic belong to one nation , and every citizen do worship one God .
Our future lies in our hand, and it is the fundamental right of every citizen to exercise their vote and not to waste it, and they should bear in mind that the candidate whom they are going to vote for, should have the potential to solve Goans issues rather than just looking at the winnability factor.
To represent the people, our country being a democratic, people plays a very important role in electing their representative, and as per our constitution every citizen has the right to vote and elect a good, faithful, and hard working having no criminal background but a person who will really work for the people and their needs.
As described by Mr. Abraham Lincoln (former president of the United States) in a democracy, the candidate should be one “of the people, for the people chosen by the people”. In the past we have seen how our five year visitor made so many sweet promises but failed to put them in action.
This visitor has met the people after a gap of five years, so think and cast your vote for a worthy person who will forget his selfish motives and work for our betterment and not be an opportunist.
When we say betterment, he should bear in mind the following major issues which are haunting the Goans that is mining, tourism, unemployment, fishing, pollution, Coastal Regulation Zone, garbage menace etc. He should be able to convince the mining authority concerned to work out for solution to start sustainable mining, which will not have any ill-effect on the environment. A lot of people are employed and many more local too are dependent on this industry and it brings a lot of foreign exchange to the State.
After the mining industry, tourism is the second largest foreign exchange earner. However, lately it has been facing rough weather and the government has failed to look into and rectify their mistake. Lot of money has been wasted by bureaucrats through junkets where they and ministers alike have been sent out to promote tourism on road shows, which are held every year in foreign countries.
But they seem to be only having fun and enjoying the holidays with their families and hardly do any tourism related promotion or activities. As a result of which, they have failed to arrest the decline in number of tourists who have been visiting Goa. The government has failed to prevent the number of tourists dropping and due to this, the industry has gone to the dogs, and many people will be affected if proper action is not taken.
The number of people unemployed will increase tremendously, and we are already observing that many Goans have migrated abroad in search of employment.
In the past, political parties in their manifestos had promised that they will create new job opportunities but have failed to keep their promises.
For example, one of the ruling party’s MP, who has been representing the North Goa parliamentary seat (Ref Review Insight dated 10/03/19. Herald), has said that he has done lot of development in his constituency. But he has failed to pinpoint the exact place of the development he has done.
Many people have not seen his face for the last so many years, which is very important. He should have visited the people who elect him, at least once a year, and in this way, he will be able to keep a good rapport and also get to know the difficulties faced by the people. There are so many macro and micro issues and if one can take a look at the conditions of the roads, which are in a pitiful condition, it gives you a sense of the state of affairs where nobody is bothered about the problems Goans face and do not have time to address it.
There have been enough of empty promises by the political class that pays lip service to the needs of the people, while doing exactly the opposite of what they say. What Goa now needs are candidates who have stood along with the people, not just during election campaign, but who have campaigned, at other times with the Goans on issues locals hold hold dear to their hearts and issues that they need a solution for.
It may not be easy to find candidates, who have given themselves to the cause they have been fighting, to now step into political arena. But that shouldn’t dissuade, the parties seeking out such persons who will not be mere party M.Ps who just make up the numbers, in the Lok Sabha, but be representatives of the people, who will speak in the voice of the people and present their issues, like better employment, garbage cleanliness, lower food prices, improve the quality of roads, keeping in mind to safe guard, and preserve the identity and culture of the state, before parliament for resolution.
So think before you cast your vote to the deserving candidate who has the capabilities and who will really work for the people and elect accordingly
