Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) have similar ideologies and think on similar lines, this could lead to an alliance between the MGP and Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) the political arm of the BBM.
Their meeting ground may be the Medium of Instruction (MoI) issue, but they have similar thoughts on the Tenancy Act amendment and a few other issues. The close ties between the two were first seen in public at a meeting organised by BBSM in July this year at Ponda attended by over 4000 loves of the mother tongue. Here, BBSM called on like-minded people to unite and fight against the BJP and its government’s U-turn on MoI. Present at the meeting were MGP President Pandurang (Dipak) Dhavalikar and General Secretary and Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar along with sarpanchas of various panchayats from the MGP bastion.
MGP-backed ZP member Chaitra Phadate, Bandora Sarpanch Nayan Naik and Kavale Sarpanch Rajesh Kavalekar were present. While Dhavalikar preferred sitting in the audience, Mamledar shared the dais with BBSM leaders including Subhash Velingkar, Anand Shirodkar, Arvind Bhatikar and others.
“It is only because we have delayed that BBSM has floated the political party ‘Goa Suraksha Manch’ or else we all would have been together as always,” MGP told Herald.
Rebel RSS chief Subhash Velingkar, whose work brought the BJP success in Goa, is now set to damage the saffron party and his movement will only get strengthened if the State’s oldest regional party supports him. BBSM had given MGP time to consider its future with BJP and break ties with the saffron party. So far it hasn’t officially happened, but the cracks are widening with each passing day.
According to internal political analysis and calculations, an MGP-GSM combine could damage BJP in almost 16 constituencies besides MGP’s current Ponda, Madkai and Priol. MGP says, that if they go alone they are confident of winning another six constituencies including Mandrem which is the chief minister’s constituency, Dabolim, St Cruz, Bicholim, Shiroda and Canacona.
Current political analysis shows that a GSM-MGP combine could damage BJP in Mandrem, Pernem, Bicholim, Mayem, Sakhalim, Saligao, Sanguem, Curchorem, Quepem, Sanvordem, Canacona, Shiroda, Dabolim, Vasco, Manrmugao and St Cruz.
