MARGAO: A 10-man Chandor Club prevailed over St Anthony’s Sports Club, Colva 5-4 via the tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of all-Goa 32nd Gold Silver Rolling Trophy inter-village football tournament, organized by Navelim Sporting Club, at Sinquetim ground, Navelim, Wednesday.
The teams were tied 1-1 at full time and displayed an attacking brand of soccer. Chandor Club broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when striker Moses D’Sa punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
In the 22nd minute, Chandor Club suffered a jolt when Severaj D’Costa was ejected by referee for deliberately handling the ball. Three minutes later, St Anthony’s SC neutralized the lead when striker Jovisco Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with clinical finish.
Crossing over, St Anthony’s SC failed to utilize the advantage as they could not break the rival resilience defence.
Despite 10-man, Chandor Club fought gallantly but missed couple of scoring chances. With the stalemate ending in a 1-1 draw, tie-breaker was resorted, wherein Chandor Club came out victors. They scored through Ivan Pinto, Moses D’Sa, Stanley Fernandes and Mario Fernandes converted for Chandor Club while Collin Fernandes, Jovisco Fernandes and Ronnie Fernandes scored for St Anthony’s SC.
