PANJIM: ABC Sports Club, Arambol prevailed over Candolim Sports Club 7-6 via the sudden-death to clinch the Mc Dowell’s No. 1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament (North zone), organized by Agassaim Youth Club, at Agassaim ground, on Sunday. There was no score at full time.
Arambol enjoyed the better share of exchanges in the opening sessions and their forwards unleashed barrage of attacks but Candolim SC goalkeeper Krupesh Bandodkar left them frustrated.
First, Kevin’s rasping shot was blocked by goalkeeper Krupesh Bandodkar.
Minutes later, Bandodkar came to his sides rescue once again as he fisted away a Jaison Fernandes effort.
The Candolim SC goalkeeper continued his fine reflexes as Jaison saw his powerful header being blocked.
At the other end, Candolim SC slowly took over reins but their forwards lacked firepower as both, Sigmund Silveira and Bhaush Candolkar muffed gilt edged chances.
Crossing over, both the teams adopted attacking brand of football and had equal number of scoring chances.
Kevin almost broke the deadlock but keeper Bandodkar made a timely clearance.
With time running out, Candolim SC went all out and came close to scoring but Sigmund’s snap shot missed the mark narrowly.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Gladston Cardozo, Amit Fernandes, Vithal Kinalker, Stepetlon Fernandes, Edward Cardozo and Omkar Satardekar were on target for Arambol while Anthony Fernandes, Deundra Pednekar, Joelif Simoes, Royston Pereira, Suraj Khaunthankar and Adrin Vaz found the mark for Candolim SC.
In the sudden-death, Jaison Fernandes was success full for Arambol while Krupesh Bandodkar failed to convert for Candolim SC.
Individual prizes were awarded to Best goalkeeper of the final: Krupesh Bandodkar of Candolim SC. Best defender of the final: Gladston Cardozo of ABC, Arambol. Best forward of the final: Stepleton Fernandes of ABC, Arambol. Man-of-the-match: Krupesh Bandodkar of Candolim SC and Golden boot: Sanket Jhotkar of Candolim SC.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of San Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh; Suraj Shrivastava, Deputy General Manager of United Spirits Limited; Fr Victor Rodrigues, Assistant Parish Priest of Agassaim parish; Agassaim Sarpanch James Afonso; former MLA of San Andre Teotonio Pereira; Kshitij Shetye, Sate Customer Marketing Manager of United Spirits Limited; Artemio D’Silva, Area Sales Manager and Joesph Dias, Event Manager of VJT Arts, Chinchinim.
Earlier, Armando Colaco welcomed the guests while Juliana Colaco proposed the vote of thanks. In all, 16 teams participated.
