Keni told to take remedial measure

PANJIM: The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has directed Goa Chess Association not to allow SAG coach Sanjay Kavlekar to contest the elections to be held on April 28.
The AICF has also taken serious note of the alleged gross violations that have taken place in the whole electoral process, according to a letter from Bharat Singh, secretary, All India Chess Federation to Asheesh Keni, GCA president.
Bharat Singh stated: “Many talukas have complained about the irregularities connected with the conduct of the elections. One of the main complaints is that one Sanjay Kavlekar, who is working in SAG is contesting for the post of secretary which is clearly against the guidelines of the government. This might even affect the character of All India Chess Federation and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will view it seriously. We also understand that many Taluka Associations are formed with unknown persons not connected with chess. There are also complaints that the list of eligible voters has not been supplied to the contestants. A complaint says that only three days were given for filing nomination. No hard copy of election programme has been given. While it was said that any officer or MC member is eligible to contest, however one Subash Parsekar, who was nominated as secretary in place of secretary who resigned, his nomination has not been accepted.”
“As such it is suggested that Sanjay kavlekar should not be allowed to contest. All other matters have to be sorted out if Goa has to continue its affiliation with AICF. You will understand, as the apex body, we cannot remain a mute spectator when we have received so many complaints especially against Sanjay Kavlekar,” added Bharat Singh. “I hope you will realize the seriousness of the issue and take remedial measure immediately and report back,” the letter pointed out.
