PANJIM: The Goa Cricket Association Treasurer Akbar Mulla, allegedly named as one of the accused in the 3.13 crore fake account scam, has blamed the bank manager for the scam.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, at the GCA headquarters,  Porvorim,  Mulla said he was ready for any inquiry.
“There were several discrepancies in opening of the account. For example, the name in my passport copy does not match the name on the account,” Mulla informed adding “the account opening form also does not have a introducer’s signature”.
Further, the GCA treasurer stated that his signature on account opening form and the passport also do not match.
Mulla alleged that the DCB bank manager should be blamed for the misappropriation.
“Branch manager Lalita Kakodkar resigned soon after the amount was withdrawn from the fake account.  Is this just a coincidence? he asked.
“At the given time when the account was opened I was not even in the GCA managing committee,” he added.
Mulla said he is ready for any inquiry and will ask for a forensic test of his signature with the investigating authorities.
The case registered by the Economic Offences Wing of Goa Police by former treasurer Vilas Desai has named GCA President Chetan Desai, Secretary Vinod Phadke and Akbar Mulla as accused of fraudulently opening a fake account and misappropriating funds to the rune of Rs 3.13 crore.
