Alisha, Diljeet bag BPS titles

PANJIM, AUG 22 Alisha Alfonso of Vasco Table Tennis Academy signaled her return to the State table tennis scene in emphatic style with a crushing 3-0 win over Nyssa Alvares, in the finals of BPS Club All-Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournatment at BPS Club hall, Margao yesterday.

Alisha Alfonso of Vasco Table Tennis Academy signaled her return to the State table tennis scene in emphatic style with a crushing 3-0 win over Nyssa Alvares, in the finals of BPS Club All-Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournatment at BPS Club hall, Margao yesterday.
In the finals, Alisha, a First Year Engineering student of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna, demolished her opponent in an awesome display of attacking table tennis which left her opponent clueless.
With both the forehand top spin crosscourt openings and lethal backhand down the line drives working like a dream, Alisha had her opponent wilting, in the face of the non-stop barrage of attacking strokes, to romp home, an easy winner of her  4th women’s title at BPS.
In other matches, young upcoming talent from Mapusa, Urmila Mense beat promising Margao paddler, Tanishi Kirtane 3-1 in the cadets girls’ final and later put it across Laxmi Shetye 3-0 in the sub-junior girls final. Tanishi, had earlier won the mini-cadet girls’ singles final with an easy win over her opponent.
Devika Sood shocked top seed Eleanor Rosario 3-2 in a see-saw junior girls final to bag her first-ever singles title in State table tennis.
Young Wesley do Rosario continued his dominance in the mini-cadets and cadets boys’ event with sterling victories over his opponents
Tejas Shevde continued his mastery over Krishal Peres De Silva with emphatic 3-0 victories over his opponents in the both the sub-junior and junior boys categories.
In a rather predictable and tame men’s singles final, top seed Diljeet Velingkar put it across Agnelo Naik 4-1 to bag the title.
Our Margao Correspondent adds: Tejas Shevde bagged the double crown, winning sub-junior and junior boys crowns. Urmila Mense also bagged the double crown.
Results: Mini-cadets girls:  Tanisi Kirtani beat Abigale Faria Cunha 11-5,11-2, 11-8. Mini-cadets boys Wesley do Rosario beat Varun Gangodkar 11-3,11-3,11-3. Cadets girls Urmila Mense beat Tanisi Kirtani 6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-9. Cadets boys  Wesley do Rosario beat Abner Fari Cunha 11-4, 11-9, 11-8. Sub-junior girls Urmila Mense beat Laxmi Shetye 11-6, 11-7, 11-6. Sub-junior boys Tejas Shevde beat Krishna Peres de Silva 11-6, 11-7, 11-6. Junior girls Devika Sood beat Eleanor do Rosario 11-6, 6-11, 11-9,4-11, 11-8. Junior boys Tejas Shevde beat Krishal Peres de Silva 11-7, 13-11, 11-7. Ladies singles Alisha Alfonso beat Nyssa Alvares 11-8, 11-4, 11-7.Men singles Diljeet Velingkar (BPS) beat Agnelo Naik 11-8, 10-12, 12-10, 11-6, 11-8.
Francisco Sardinha,MP was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of  Ashok Mhambre, general secretary, Goa Table Tennis Association and Audhut Kare, president of BPS and secretary Santosh George.  Earlier, Audhut welcomed and later Santosh proposed the vote of thanks.
