RAIA: Ambelim SC prevailed over Cuncolim Union 5-4 via the sudden- death in a nail-biting finals of 1st VJT Cup football tournament at Chinchinim church ground, Sunday. There was no score at full time.
The match went down to the wire as they scored four goals each in the tie-breaker. Ambelim held their nerve and scored the decisive goal.

The first half was a tense affair as they tried to break the deadlock, but without any success. Bradley Carvalho of Cuncolim Union was the most dangerous attacker testing the Ambelim defense with his pace and skill. However, Ambelim’s goalkeeper Ozen Silva was up to the mark, making some crucial saves.
Ambelim also had some chances to score, but Cuncolim’s defense was equally resilient, thwarting their attacks.
The second half saw Ambelim adopting a more aggressive approach, putting more pressure on Cuncolim’s goal. The teams created several opportunities but none of them could convert them into goals.
Richard Fernandes, Velroy Fernandes, Lester Fernandes and Gileston Rebello scored for Ambelim. Dailan Carvalho, Mevzen Oliveira, Jollyton Fernandes and Bradley Carvalho scored for Cuncolim Union. Ozen Silva, showed great composure and skill to score in the sudden death, handing over the victory and the trophy to Ambelim.
Ozen Silva of Ambelim was deservedly named best goalkeeper of finals and received a cash prize from Simon Fernandes, Manager of AB InBev. Denvil Fernandes of Cuncolim Union was declared the best defender of finals by Fr Christopher Fernandes, Assistant Priest, Our Lady of Hope Church, Chinchinim. Mevzen Oliveira of Cuncolim Union was honored as best midfielder by Fr Victor Viegas, Assistant Parish Priest. Bradley Carvalho of Cuncolim Union was adjudged best forward of finals by Shramila Gracias, Dy Sarpanch of Chinchinim. Dailon Carvalho received the prize for scoring the first goal of finals from Valentino Baretto, Sarpanch of Chinchinim. Sario Gomes of CRC Chinchinim was named most promising layer and received a prize from Anthony Fernandes. Chadel Fernandes of CRCC received the prize for best playmaker and received a prize from Patwin Fizardo. The highest scorer and first hat-trick prize went to Shario Gomes of CRC and he received a prize from Fr Camilo Dias of Ambelim Church.
Prizes for the semi-finalists, Rs 5000 each, were given away by Anthony Pango and Avertano Furtado.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 and the trophy, the runners-up Rs 30,000 and the trophy. These were presented by Fr Alex D’Souza, Parish Priest.
