PANJIM: Ambelim Sports scored a 3-2 win over Chandor Club in an exciting match to move into the quarter-finals of 15th London Trophy inter-village football tournament at Goa Velha ground, today. Chandor led 1-0 at the break.
In a fast paced encounter, Chandor missed to go ahead in the very first minute as Denzan D’Costa headed over from point-blank range. They missed yet another chance in the 6th minute as Mark Fernandes shot wide from close. At the other end, Asfin Pinto of Ambelim blasted over.
Chandor surged ahead in the 16th minute through Safik Sheikh, who brilliantly shot home off a second effort. Vishal Araker missed the chance to equalise for Ambelim in the 33rd minute as his effort landed into the side-netting.
Ambelim Sports Club came with renewed vigour in the second half and found the equaliser in the 50th minute through Semson Fernandes.
Semson scored his second goal putting Ambelim ahead in the 54th minute. Asfin scored the third for Ambelim beating the Chandor goalkeeper in the 59th minute.
Chandor managed to reduce the margin in the 61st minute through Joaquim Carvalho as he converted a penalty after Alreach Peixoto was brought down by Ambelim defender Vishal Araker.
Semson was awarded the man-of-the match prize by Michael Silva.
