Anjan hits out at Mohun Bagan players

Following the humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of newcomers Shillong Lajong in their own backyard last Saturday, Mohun Bagan find themselves in deep trouble having garnered a mere five points in as many matches in the second phase of the I-League.
Bagan are out of the title race and going by their current form, a top three finish seems exceedingly difficult with every match day, according to Goal.Com.
Mohun Bagan general secretary, Anjan Mitra met the players and the coaching staff immediately after the weekend loss and gave them a dressing down for letting them down so drastically. The venom of his speech was directed at the National team players, who the club believes haven’t been at their best.
With the National players to be contracted with AIFF next season with the duration yet to be decided upon, Mitra sent a stern message stating that they wouldn’t find a club if they continue to give such poor performances.
“I told them that you will find it difficult to get any club if they play like that. The National players have been horrible not only for us but for all the clubs. After the India camp, the fitness levels go down,” claimed Mitra.
Deepak Mandal, N.S.Manju, Surkumar Singh, N. Mohanraj, Rakesh Masih and James Singh are the National players at Mohun Bagan.
The Kolkata club jointly holds the distinction of having the second worst defensive record in the I-League despite having some of the biggest names in Indian football and a decent number of replacements.
Not so long ago, Mohun Bagan had scored the maximum number of goals in the I-League this season but that has changed.
“We are getting chances but we aren’t converting. That’s our main problem,” Mitra pointed out.
