MARGAO: Hosts Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club beat Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda 4-2 via the tie-breaker to march into the quarter-finals of All-Goa 19th Sao Jose de Areal Villagers Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal, Sunday. There was no score at full time.
Areal held a slight edge over their opponents. As the match progressed the battle become lively and Areal launched heavy attacks on the rival citadel and nearly found the success but the Fr Agnelo goalkeeper came to his side’s rescue blocking Marian Rebello’s try.
Post resumption, Fr Agnelo put up an improved display and raided the rival goal umpteen times. Striker Ramachandra Gaonkar spurned the easiest chance of the day when we blasted wide with only the rival goalkeeper at his mercy.
In the tie-breaker, Bersel Viegas, Agio Antao, Allister Moura and Sheldon Dias found the mark for Areal while Anthony Dias and Ramchandra Gaonkar netted for Paroda.
