Asks Inspector General of Societies to investigate affairs

PANJIM: Vasant Naik, executive committee member of Goa State Chess Association (GSCA), Thursday, filed a complaint before the Inspector General of Societies, District Registrar (South) challenging the electoral process and citing several other irregularities and unconstitutional acts by the managing committee of Goa Chess Association.
In his letter, Vasant has asked the Inspector General of Societies, District Registrar (South) to investigate the affairs of the Society under the provision of section 20 (A) of Societies Registration Act and take appropriate action as required under the law and stay the process of GCA elections which are scheduled to be held on April 28.
Vasant alleged that there have been several issues of irregularities of affairs and unconstitutional acts by the managing committee of GCA.
“Amendments to the constitution of GCA have been carried out without following proper procedures and no proper notices issued to the members. Also, amendments were passed by only a handful of members, whereas, most of the members were absent as they were unaware of the amendment meeting. The election procedures followed are incorrect as no proper time limit has been given for filing of nominations,” alleged Vasant.
“Government servants have been allowed to file nomination without obtaining prior sanction from the department concerned. Some of them (members) have held elective post for more than four years previously and therefore become ineligible to contest for such elective posts in the GCA,” pointed out Vasant.
“The election procedure was not properly intimated to the Taluka Associations and some nominations were wrongly rejected. Besides, the lists of contestants have not been circulated to the Taluka Associations,” he stated.
“Admission was granted to Taluka Associations by General Body which as per the new amendment passed, such members do not have voting rights,” he disclosed.
