AMBELIM: Arlem Youth Association marched ahead in the Lourdes Soccer, organised by Ambelim Sports Club, following their nervy 2-1 win over Varca Sports Club at Ambelim ground, on Wednesday.
The teams started in earnest fashion as there were series of attempts from either side. However, Arlem Youth Association took the lead in the sixth minute through Sweden Barbosa. The goal proved crucial for Arlem who were seen struggling to find the finishing touch in the later part of the session.
At the other end, Dylan Lima took his chance as he got Varca SC back in the game with a 24th minute equalising goal. The scores were 1-1 at the break as the sides had to restart the second session from square one.
But soon after the restart, Danny Fernandes, who squandered couple of chances in the first half and was instrumental in the built up for the first goal, made amends to his earlier misses and scored the goal for Arlem to put them ahead in the 38th minute. His strike proved to be the match-winner as Varca SC, despite playing good football failed to score in the second half. Arlem defended resolutely till the final whistle to deny their opponents from scoring.
