MAPUSA: Assonora United Football Club struggled before securing a 2-1 win over Goa Velha Sports Club to move into the quarter-finals of the XI Reira Soccer Cup, organised by Saligao Sporting Club, played at Saligao Sporting grounds here on Monday.
Goa Velha took the lead in the 25th minute of play through Suresh Thapa whose brilliant corner curled into the back of the Assonora nets, 1-0.
Changing over the Assonora side levelled terms in the 50th minute of play when Tushar Dessai’s power-packed shot crashed into the Goa Velha nylons, 1-1.
Minutes into the match, Rahesh Salgaonkar scored the all important goal for Assonora to take his side into the next round, 2-1.
