MAPUSA: Assonora United Football Club scored a hard fought 2-1 over Dunes SC to gain their first victory in the GFA’s U-18 League match, played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Friday.
Assonora now have three points from four matches whiles Dunes have six points from equal outings.
After some midfield play Assonora had a close shave at scoring but Dunes defender Brasel Fernandes did well to block Sai Patel effort from close range.
Dunes striker Nahshon Noronha charged into the rival citadel but after making his way past the defenders shot tamely at Assonora custodian Sanij Budge.
In the 43rd minute Dinlesh Naik set up Pratik Tivadkar right inside the Dunes 18-yard box, however keeper Shridhar Pujar did well to thwart him before he could aim goalwards.
Changing ends Assonora began on an attacking note and shot into the lead in the 48th minute of play when Rahul Naik on getting hold of the ball on the edge of the box, fired the ball home, 1-0.
Ten minutes later the winners doubled their lead through the boots of Manthan Parwan, 2-0. Two minutes before the final whistle Dunes managed to reduce the margin when Vishesh Sawant placed himself perfectly to guide in the ball from inside the Assonora goal area, 1-2.
