MARGAO: Assumpta Convent High School, Sarzora overcame Regina Mundi High School, Vasco 1-0 to emerge champions in the South Goa under 14 Boys inter-school football tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Affairs, in a pulsating final at school play ground, Cuncolim, on Saturday. There was no score at half time.
In an even balanced encounter, the team displayed attacking brand of soccer. As a result there were few thrills at either end. Both had equal umber of scoring chances but their forwards failed to get past the rival rearguard.
Post resumption, the teams adopted aggressive football and goalkeepers had busy day to keep their citadel intact.
As the match headed for the tie-breaker, Nigel Fernandes struck the all-important goal at fag end when he unleashed a volley crashed into the net.
