PANJIM: Desserts N’More Avengers and RC Goa secured hard-fought wins in their respective matches of the PGML 4.0, at Panjim Gymkhana ground, on Saturday. The day, marked by low-scoring contests, saw the Avengers edge out Manas Mavericks by 1 run, while RC Goa defeated Prescon Panthers by 11 runs.
In the first match, Avengers skipper Rajshekhar Harikant delivered a match-winning performance, scoring 38 off 24 balls to help his team recover from 24/4 and post 128 in 19.5 overs. Saif Ali Karajgi contributed a quickfire 21 off 10 balls, while Sagar Salgaocar added 20 runs. For the Mavericks, Ajinkya Kudtarkar excelled with 3/16.
The Mavericks came close in their chase, needing 16 runs off the final over. Despite two late boundaries from Mehank Dharwadkar (19*), they fell short, finishing at 127/8. Key contributions from Vardhan Haldankar (35), captain Ilyas Naroo (33), and Ajinkya (23) kept them in contention.
In the second match, RC Goa claimed their second consecutive win, defending 126/7 by restricting Prescon Panthers to 115. Muzaffar Kadri starred with 3/25, dismantling the Panthers’ top order. RC Goa’s innings was anchored by a crucial 40-run partnership between Nityay Kunkolienkar (32) and Samar Dubhashi (29). For the Panthers, Harshal Shah impressed with 3/17 and chipped in with 20 runs during the chase, but the team fell short.
