MARGAO: Hosts Betalbatim Sporting Club defeated Candolim Sports Club 2-1 to romp into the semi-finals of All-Goa Joao Francisco Pacheco memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Betalbatim Sporting Club at Betalbatim complex, Monday. They led 1-0 at the lemon break
Egged on a vociferous home crowd, Betalbatim started on an aggressive mode and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Their persistent forays paid off when striker Nigel Falcao bulged the net off a well measured pass from Denzil Rogtao.
Stung by the setback, Candolim intensified their forays and tried their best but failed to get past the rival’s strong defence.
Post resumption, Candolim remained undeterred and managed to draw level when Paul Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
With the match heading for the tie-breaker, Malcolm Fernandes headed home off a cross from Nigel Falcao.
