MAPUSA: Bidesh XI registered a hard fought 2-0 win over Goan Warriors, in the 6th round match of the GFA’s 2nd Division league, played at Duler stadium, here, on Tuesday.
The hero of-the-match was Saish Kavelkar who scored both the goals for Bidesh XI. Bidesh XI started the match brightly and nearly got the opening goal in the ninth minute, when Saish Kavlekar`s vicious shot rattled the crossbar and the ball rebounded to Dominic Miranda who, shockingly blasted the ball wide with an open goal gaping in front of him.

Bidesh kept pressuring their opponent’s goal and succeeded in getting the breakthrough in the 33rd minute, through Saish Kavlekar who on receiving a pass from Gaurish Bugde unleashed a powerful shot which nestled into the back of the net leaving no chance to Goan Warriors keeper, Soma Korgaonkar to give his side the lead.
Saish should have made it 2-0 in the 39th minute when he was put clear by a defence-splitting pass by Shubhan Gawas but his indecisive thinking in front of the goal saw the chance being squandered.
Goan Warriors showed more resilience on resumption of the second-half and nearly got the equalising goal in the 49th minute, but keeper Ritesh Narvekar dived full stretch to keep out Tukaram Parab`s firm header from a cross delivered into the box by Chetan Shirodkar. Minutes later, Bidesh defender Harshad Gaonkar put his body in the way to stop Chetan’s well drilled shot from finding the back of the net.
Goan Warriors kept probing and nearly scored the equalising goal in the 67th minute but Tukaram`s fierce shot unfortunately struck the head of Bidesh defender Sahil and went out for a corner.
Just when Goan Warriors looked threatening, Bidesh XI held their nerves to seal all three points with a second goal from Saish Kavelekar who beat the keeper with a deft placement after some amazing footwork by teammate Dnyaneshwar Pednekar to complete his brace.
