SALIGAO: Calangute Association Sports Club registered a hard fought 5-4 win via tie breaker over Guirim YSCC by 5-4 margin, to advance into the quarters of the XI Reira Soccer Cup, organised by Saligao Sporting Club, at Saligao Sporting ground, on Wednesday.
It was the Guirim colts that held the upper hand in the 70 minutes of duel, yet they failed to score.
Shubham Dessai was their main architect who with his constant attack kept the last line of Calangute defence on their toes.
Cedric Fernandes too had a chance to put Guirim ahead but he failed to direct his open header inside the goal framework.
At the other end Calangute side Pedro Gonsalves, Aniket, Blake Haldankar also missed some open sitters.
With the match locked in a goalless draw the penalty shootout was enforced where for Calangute colts Runald, Rajkumar, Joaquim Gonsalves, Pedro Gonsalves and Charles Cardoz scored, while for Guirim side Olavo Pinto, Gabriel Fernandes, Clifford Cardoz and Shubham Dessai scored.
