MAPUSA: Calangute Association Sports Club managed to edge past Guardian Angel Sports Club 2-1 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Saturday.
Though both the teams started earnestly it was Calangute Association that broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Sheldon Pereira’s 40-yard free-kick zoomed into the goal beating Guardian Angel SC’s defenders and goalkeeper 1-0.
Guardian Angel SC lost a glorious chance to level terms when James and Fedrich Fernandes combined to find the latter hit the side netting.
Finally, in the 46th minute, Guardian Angel SC equalised when a swift move was carried forth by Moises D’Sa to Suman who relayed ball to Preston Castano who in turn found unmarked Moises, who scored with a neat placement 1-1. On crossing over, both the coaches brought couple of changes.
After minutes of midfield play in the 76th minute, Sheldon Pereira sent a long ball to Mehboob on the right flank who released the ball to substitute Vishesh Nasnodkar who drilled a half volley into the far corner of the goal 2-1.
At the other end, Guardian Angel SC had an opportunity to equalise but Fraizer Fernandes strike was saved by Calangute Association’s custodian Aditya Sharma. In 90th minute of play, Guardian Angel SC’s goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh received red card for indecent by Referee Ian Rodrigues.
