MARGAO: Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim edged past United Boys of Dando, Colva 1-0 to romp into the final of all-Goa Prime Coastal Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Prime Sports Club, Benaulim, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Tuesday.
Cavelossim skipper Raju Cardozo’s seventh minute strike proved to be the match-winner for the Cavelossim team.
Cavelossim started confidently and went ahead in the seventh minute when a static Colva defence allowed Cavelossim’s Valencio Ferandes the liberty to move freely inside the box and the young winger unselfishly relayed to Raju, who had to simplest of job to tap in past rival goal keeper Elestree D’Silva.
Colva stunned by the reversal should have equalized before the breather but striker Agnelo Fernandes wasted a golden opportunity.
After resumption, Colva pressurised the Cavelossim defence but Yuri Ferrao found an able partner, Orvil Matos to repel the attacks of Colva strikers.
At the fag end of the match, Colva striker Jovisco Fernandes blasted over from inside the area to utter disappointment of the Colva supporters.
