RAIA: CDJ de Ribandar got the better of Navelim SC 2-1 to move into the semi-finals of the 46th Custodio memorial football tournament organised by Raia Sporting, at Raia panchayat ground, on Saturday.
Navelim SC began on a dominant note and scored in the early quarter thought Clinton Niasso who received a beautiful ball from Covan Lawrence. Clinton who is a brilliant finisher placed the ball into CDJ Ribandar nets to give his team the lead.
Trailing by a goal CDJ Ribandar tookj control of the match and their striker Ramesh Palkar sent in a through ball to Shashank Naik but Navelim’s Joseph Gomes tackled the latter’s move.
As the match progressed a well executed move by Ramesh Palkar and Krishnanath Shirodkar worked well for Ribandar and managed to level terms. Krishnanath was instrumental in getting the ball past the rival keeper.
CDJ Ribandar scored the match winner in the 52nd minute through Newton Azawedo’s power packed shot.
CDJ de Ribandar will meet the winners of Calangute Association and Cortalim Villagers and SWA in the semi-finals on July 15.
