AMBORA: Chinchinim Veterans pipped Quepem Veterans by a 1-0 margin to move into the quarter-finals of the Rachol Veterans football tournament, played at Camorlim, Ambora ground, on Monday.
In the 12th minute, Quepem’s Ivan Coutinho had the first sight at the Chinchinim goal as he dribbled past Presley Pereira of Chinchinim from the defence line and went for glory but Herculano Colaco tackled the move near the goal-line for Chinchinim. At the other end, Chinchinim through Jerry Fernandes should have netted but the latter’s left footer failed to pop into Quepem net in the 23rd minute.
This time Chinchinim’s Jerry didn’t make the mistake as he scored from a wide range shot which crushed into Quepem net in the 38th minute.
However, Quepem Veterans tried to find the equaliser but the defence wall of Chinchinim stood strong till the end of the match to maintain the lead.
