Churchill Brothers go down to Inter Kashi

VASCO: Inter Kashi rallied strongly to get past Churchill Brothers, 2-1, in the I-League match, played at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Friday.

Against the run of play, Churchill went ahead in the 38th minute, when their livewire captain Martin Garcia’s pin point flag kick found an unmarked Ricardo at the far end who gleefully tapped in.

Anil Gaonkar, who impressed with his run down the flanks, almost doubled their lead but his shot from the edge of the box kissed the cross bar on its way out with Arindam in the Kashi goal beaten all ends up.

The hosts should have consolidated their lead within the opening three minutes of the second half but first Richard and then Ricardo wasted sitters.

The Northern visitors celebrated the escapes with a well deserved equaliser in the 52nd minute with Jackichand finding the net off a delectable feed by the hard working Spaniard Mario Barco.

Inter Kashi pressed hard for the winner and their efforts bore fruit in the 87th minute with a brilliant move initiated by Mario sliced open the Churchill defence and substitute Gyamar Nikum beat a hapless Subhashish Roy in the Churchill goal with a cool finish.

At Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl, Gaurav Rawat struck a brace of goals in the 14th and 23rd minutes as Delhi FC thrashed former champions Aizawl FC 5-1 in an away-tie.

Aroldo da Silva Arruda (62nd)’, Sergio Barbosa Junior (77th) and Alaeldin Eissa Elmaghraby (86th) scored a goal each as former champions Aizawl FC found themselves at the receiving end on their home turf when they were outclassed and outplayed 5-1.

While heavy and non-stop rain left everyone on and off the pitch completely drenched for the entire period of the match, debutants Delhi FC toyed with their rivals to pick up three points, which took their tally to seven points from four matches.
