After failing to win their last two matches, Musli Power Churchill Brothers drubbed JCT, Phagwara 6-0 in an ONGC I-League at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Thursday. Churchill led 3-0 at the breather.
Skipper Odafa Okolie bagged a brace while Nascimento Silveira, Lalrindika Ralte, Felix Chimaokwu and Ogba Kalu Nnanna all scored a goal each.
The Goans, egged on by supporters, enjoyed domination in both attack and defence against the Punjab side who adopted a defensive approach. Churchill were superior in fitness and agility while JCT struggled to enter the rival citadel.
Churchill started the game strongly and took the lead in the 10th minute when midfielder Nascimento found the back of the net.
Three minutes later man-of-the match Felix doubled the lead following a well measured cross from Lalrindika.
The two goal lead gave the hosts more confidence as they continued to dominate with the JCT players chasing shadows.
Churchill came under pressure when midfielder Penn Orji outwitted a rival defender and essayed a fine pass to Henry Ezeh who unleashed a right footer but the Churchill goalkeeper rose to the occasion to fist away the ball for an abortive flag kick.
In the 38th minute, midfielder Lalrindika celebrated his first goal in the league off a pass from Felix.
After the change of ends, JCT had a chance to reduce the margin but striker Henry Ezek was the culprit as he fumbled to connect a flag kick taken by Penn Orji. Churchill came close in swelling their lead but Odafe muffed a sitter with only the JCT goalkeeper to beat.
Churchill found the net in the 77th minute through Odafe off a pass from Felix.
After taking a four goal cushion, Odafe completed his brace when he beat the rival goalkeeper with an adroit placement off a pass from Lalrindika in the 89th minute to make it 5-0.
Churchill’s midfielder Ogba Kalu rounded off the tally in the injury time off a pass from Odafe.
With this win, Churchill with 29 points in their kitty stand at fourth place from 18 matches while JCT suffered their second defeat and have 22 points from 19 matches.
