DUBAI, JULY 4
Goan midfielder Climax Lawrence will join the Indian squad here today. He did not travel with the Indian team from New Delhi last week after going down with high fever during the later part of the camp in the Indian capital.
The Indian team will conclude their 12-day camp, organised by Dubai-based Gulf International Promotions (GIP) and travel to Barcelona on July 7.
Meanwhile, striker Sunil Chetri is making swift progress with his right ankle injury. Chetri has been advised two weeks’ rest by team physician Dr Sachin Kumar Yadav. ‘I am pleased with the progress I have made with the ankle during the past few days,’ Chetri told Gulf News.
Indian skipper Baichung Bhutia’s strike partner had injured his ankle during the course of the season. ‘I am going through the normal course of physiotherapy and exercises and I should be ready for the camp in Barcelona,’ Chetri said.
Dr Yadav has consulted physical trainer Suresh Babu Kavuluri and physiotherapist Gagan Kapoor and prescribed light jogging for the striker while the rest of the squad is put through their paces by head coach Bob Houghton.
‘Our season was long and tough last year and sometimes it is difficult to find time to recover from small niggles you get during matches. But thankfully, everything seems to be in control in my case and that’s a relief. The trip to Spain will be a good exposure for all of us,’ Chetri added.
