Coach Mathew to continue with Sporting

To retain team with few new additions; Brandon to remain with The Flaming Oranje, says CEO Victor

PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa have confirmed to have retained their head coach Mathew D’Costa for the next season.
The former Dempo SC junior and Vasco SC tactician in last season’s Goa Pro League joined the Panjim-outfit ahead of the I-League and put up a commendable performance with most of the Goan players given a platform to showcase their talent.
“Mathew has been retained. In fact, we are retaining the entire team,” informed Sporting Clube de Goa CEO Victor Fernandes, on Thursday.
“I’m very much happy working with this team. The team played really well and we want to do much better in the next season. We are just trying to keep the entire squad together,” stated Mathew D’Costa.
After languishing at the bottom of the standings, Sporting Clube put a tremendous show in the second half of the season which was much inspired by Nigerian striker Odafa Okolie and Goan youngster Brandon Fernandes.
The club recently signed a new contract with Odafa. The 20-year-old Brandon was on the radar of Kolkata giants East Bengal but Victor believes the medio will continue with Sporting Clube next season.
“There was a link (with East Bengal) but Brandon is going to play for Sporting Clube after the ISL. He is not very keen on playing outside Goa. He is in the ISL domestic draft also,” concluded Victor.
