MARGAO: Connie Enterprises, Mungul rallied to beat Lavina Veterans, Fatorda 3-1 via the tie-breaker to romp into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Navelim Veterans football tournament organized by Navelim Veterans at Rosary ground, Navelim, Friday. Connie Enterprises trailed 0-1 at half time.
Lavina Veterans enjoyed a slight edge over their opponents in the first half and rocked the rival citadel in the 23rd minute when striker Rosario Carvalho picked up the ball from Jaison Cardozo and slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stung by the setback, Connie Enterprises took the fight to the rival camp and conducted a couple of raids but failed to get past the rival goalkeeper.
Lavina Veterans had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards were guilty of muffing sitters.
Crossing over, Connie Enterprises put up a better performance and tested the rival goalkeeper with snap shots. Lavina Veterans were a subdued as they tried to check their offensive play apparently in a bid to protect their slender lead. Connie Enterprises took the advantage of the situation and found the equalizer in the 70th minute when Peter Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper hands down with a rasping shot.
After the equalizer, both teams went all-out in search of the match-winner but to no avail.
In the tie-breaker, Roque Pereira and Elvis Pereira were on target for Connie Enterprises while no one converted for Lavina Veterans.
