Churchill Brothers FC Goa, Pax of Nagoa draw

MAPUSA/RAIA: Cortalim Villagers struck two first half goals to register a 2-0 win over Sesa FA in the Goa Professional League, held at Duler stadium, here, on Friday.

Cortalim Villagers started on a promising note and went into the breather with a two goals cushion.

With today’s match Cortalim Villagers and Sesa FA are on 20 points each after playing their 12th GPL match.

Striker Vikram Venkatchalam drew the first blood scoring in the very 7th minute from inside the penalty box while medio Saeesh Halarnkar netted a gem of a goal in the 39th minute from a superb bicycle finish leaving Sesa’s custodian rooted to the ground.

If not for Sesa’s custodian Mahadev Gawade the score sheet would have been different, as the goalkeeper brought smart saves to collect Sidney Lucas header and Ronil Azavedo 25-yard strike.

On crossing over Cortalim Villagers continued with their domination but Sesa keeper came to their team rescue as he denied Saeesh Halarnkar and Ronial Azavedo from scoring, while Velroy Carvalho’s header from close went just over the cross bar.

Cortalim Villagers Vikram Venkatchalam received the man-of-the-match award from the hands of Antonio Vaz, MLA Cortalim Constituency.

At SAG ground, Benaulim, Churchill Brothers FC Goa and Pax of Nagoa played 2-2 draw. 

Nickson Casthana of Pax had an opportunity to score in the second minute, but unfortunately, he couldn’t capitalize on it. Following that, Trijioy Savio Dias from Churchill narrowly missed the Pax target. In the 5th minute, Lunminlen Haokip of Churchill also had a chance but was unable to find the back of the net. Shortly after, Delton Colaco of Pax had his turn, but unfortunately, he missed the opportunity as well.

Josley Moniz of Pax scored the opening goal of the match, converting a corner kick delivered by Sherwin Lawton Abranches in the 8th minute.

In the second half, Churchill levelled the score through an own goal by Joseph Clemente of Pax in the 55th minute. Muhammed Nihal of Pax then put his team ahead, 2-1, in the 70th minute, but in the 81st minute, Lunminlen Haokip equalised for Churchill, bringing the match back to level terms.

Pushkar Sanjay Prabhu of Churcill Brothers FC Goa received the man-of-the-match award at the hands of Manoj Kesarkar, panch of Cana-Benaulim.
