CUNCOLIM: Cuncolim Union blanked Uguem’s Rising Club 3-0 to move into the semi-finals of the all-Goa Cuncolim Union Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Cuncolim Union, at Government village school ground, Cuncolim, on Monday.
In the opening minutes, Cuncolim took control and broke the deadlock through a spot-kick in the 12th minute as attacking midfielder Frazier Fernandes was brought down by rival defender Seby Rodrigues inside the penalty box and referee without any hesitation showed the dreaded spot.
Micky Fernandes made no mistake with the resultant spot kick to send the rival goalkeeper in wrong way.
Stung by the setback, Rising Club too had their share of chances as they looked to level the score in the 14th minute when Israel Gomes ‘ snap shot was well blocked by the rival goalkeeper Shaik Sahil.
Cuncolim Union continued their domination with their quick passing football and scored in the 16th minute as Pangam Gaonkar unleashed a volley which crashed into the net giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper Selwyn Pereira.
Cuncolim Union drilled in the final nail into the coffin in the 17th minute with Bharat Gaonkar scoring a beautifully carved shot which ended at the back of the net
Post resumption, Cuncolim Union continue to dictate terms and fired couple of shots but either of them went wide from close range.
Down by double blows, Rising Club were denied when Anil Gaonkar beat the rival goalkeeper but his shot miss the mark by few inches.
Cuncolim Union drilled in the final nail into the coffin in the 17th minute as Bharat Gaonkar scored a beautifully carved shot which ended at the back of the net to seal victory for the Cuncolim side.
