MARGAO: Cuncolim Union prevailed over Dicarpale Sports Club 6-5 via tie-breaker to march into the semi-finals of All-Goa Mandopa Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Mandopa Sports Club, at Mandopa ground, Saturday. The teams were tied 1-1 at full time.
Dicarpale Sports Club enjoyed slight edge over their opponents in the opening sessions and broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when striker Maclon Colaco beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
Stung by the setback, Cuncolim Union made concentrated efforts to neutralize the lead but failed to get pas the rival goalkeeper.
After the break, Cuncolim Union put up a better display and troubled the rival defence with sharp raids. Saurab Faterpaenkar cancelled the lead in the 35th minute.
In the penalty shoot-out, Pariston Fernandes, Conny Fernandes, Bestern Colaco, Krishna Shriodkar and Rosario Carvalho found the mark for Cuncolim Union while Maclon Colaco, Cajetan Fernandes, Bonny Niasso and Agnel Colaco converted for Dicarpale.
