Cuncolim Union take on Haryana Police in opener

PANJIM: The glittering CSB Champions Trophy for the 2nd all-India volleyball tournament organized by the Cuncolim Union Club was unveiled by the Catholic Syrian Bank (CSB) officials along with the executive committee members of the Cuncolim Union Club, at a city hotel, in Margao, on Saturday. 
The tourney will be held from May 10 to 17 at the Cuncolim ground. There will be two matches played on the inaugural day between hosts Cuncolim Union and Haryana Police followed by another match played between Indian Bank and RCF, Mumbai, informed the Cuncolim Union chairman Elvis Gomes.
Gomes remarked, “Following the success of the first edition, the club felt that there was a huge hunger in Goa for good quality volleyball and hence, has decided to organise the second edition with some of the nation’s best eight teams – Kerala Police, IT Pune, HSIDC Haryana, RCF Mumbai, Indian Bank Chennai, Western Railways Maharashtra and Haryana Police, besides hosts Cuncolim Union, Goa. Last year, there were six teams participating.” 
Senior manager of CSB, Anthony Malaickal said, “CSB being a Kerala headquartered bank, it was natural to respond to the request to support volleyball with such big names. It is the first time, the bank is stepping forward to support sports and we are happy that it is volleyball that has a huge following in Kerala.” 
Cuncolim Union president Prakash Dessai remarked, “The tournament has received tremendous support from Models Real Estate and Sporting Clube de Goa, besides other sponsors. The matches will commence at 8 p.m. at the specially created arena in Cuncolim.” Also present at the press conference were Rahul Kadam and Cuncolim Union club officials Ramesh Dessai, Aristo D’Souza and Dinesh Naik.
